<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-230" style="margin: 5px; border: 0px initial initial;" title="crizis" src="http://blog.kenmoredesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/crizis-299x176.jpg" alt="crizis" width="299" height="176" />This is a touchy subject and for many this year was the last year in business. And although this subject is not very web-related I still want to blog about it.</p>
<p>2008/09 is not a great time for business. Many had to lay off the employees or even close th doors completely. But what happened in web industry ? How come there is still a strong demand for web designers and developers ?</p>
<p>The answer lies in-between the laid off professional and merchandise in the closed stores. See, when the professionals got more free time on their hands they started providing others with services such as consulting, advising, various tax and legal help. On the other hand we had merchandise behind the closed stores of the small mom and pop stores. The merchandise had to go and there was a place for it online: it was sold on e-bay or amazon.</p>
<p><span id="more-228"></span>The interesting part is that not all of these services are offered in the phonebook, some people started a website and sometime a simple brochure website may cost as little as $1 000! Where are you going to find a business property with such a low rent? Now some mom and pop stores opened e-bay stores or even better: had a dynamic e-commerce solution professionally designed and implemented. Again sometimes this can be done for as little as $ 10 000.</p>
<p>The last point is marketing. Every website needs to be found, <a href="http://www.kenmoredesign.com">good web design companies</a> provide with SEO and <a href="http://www.kenmoredesign.com">Internet marketing services</a>. SEO progress is rather complicated but once the strategy is set up it&#8217;s relatively easy for a web design company to execute the service for just a small fee. Internet marketing and SEO services start as low as $500/mo which is times lower then any other type of marketing.</p>
<p>My message is to every one of you hurt by the financial crises: try entrepreneurship, there are many opportunities for you on the web,  your new career may be just one phone call away!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-224" style="margin: 5px;" title="bing" src="http://blog.kenmoredesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/bing.png" alt="bing" width="366" height="273" />Search engine is a best way to bring a hot lead to your website. Businesses large and small spend millions of dollars daily on online marketing.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not a secret now, but the day google revealed how much money it was making showing little text ads, everyone was shocked. Fortunately for every one of us the era of &#8220;1000 visitors for $20&#8243; advertising model is gone. Now we dont need to browse the internet till we see something we like. Now we demand it by search.</p>
<p>Even though most companies already know the power of google, some still don&#8217;t and you know why? Because it&#8217;s not tangible! When a company orders a TV or radio commercial, they can watch or listen to it, they know when and where it&#8217;s going to be broadcasted. Since a search result is just a line of text some companies consider it ineffective. Oh, how wrong they are!</p>
<p>The second mistake companies make is assuming that since it&#8217;s just a line of text, it does not require a lot of resources to create and therefore it’s got to be very cheap.</p>
<p><span id="more-223"></span>Well, first of all, no matter what kind of business your search traffic is the most reliable resource of potential clients: they are carefully targeted by a search engine and <a href="http://www.kenmoredesign.com/" target="_self">your SEO company</a>.</p>
<p>As for he second point, I have already mentioned that the era of &#8220;1000 visitors for $20&#8243; advertising model is gone. The <a href="http://www.kenmoredesign.com/" target="_self">SEO and Internet marketing company</a> has to optimize your site to make sure correct information is conveyed to search engines. In a meanwhile the web design company has to make sure the design is attractive and professional enough so the visitor picks up the phone or fills out the contact form on the site.</p>
<p>Once your internal marketing or SEO is done it&#8217;s time for the <a href="http://www.kenmoredesign.com/" target="_blank">Web design and SEO company</a> to move on to EXTERNAL marketing. This is where the things get complicated. Your website must be submitted to hundreds of online business directories, as well as hundreds of search engines and online classifieds (daily). It&#8217;s NOT necessary done for a random lead from there but first first of all is to convince &#8220;big guys&#8221; such as google, yahoo, bing, etc that your website is a REAL DEAL: you want to have an many external links as possible.</p>
<p>Now, that&#8217;s still not it, I will not repeat things I wrote previously about  PPC (pay per click) &#8211; those things are pretty clear, but we are talking about THE MOST EFFECTIVE SEO PRACTICES and PPC is NOT one of them.</p>
<p>The last step that a professional web design and internet marketing company  must do is to set up a SMM (social media marketing) campaign. It all starts with a blog. Weather you want it or not you should have it &#8211; google likes it, yahoo likes it &#8211; it means you should like it too. Apart from blogging many other things have to be done such as article and press release submissions. Again, you cant get away with saying &#8220;I have nothing to write about&#8221; &#8211; you can always find something to write about and <a href="http://www.kenmoredesign.com/seo.php" target="_blank">good SEO companies</a> do it for you. Once your blog is up and running the last step is to start twittering and participate in professional social networks &#8211; it will help your immediate exposure &#8211; again good SEO companies do it for you.</p>
<p>As you can see all this requires a lot of time and skill. Most of the time one person can&#8217;t do it all, that is why web design and SEO companies are taking a lead. They can do it faster, better, and for far less then an extra employee hired to work full time.</p>
<p>In the last part of this entry I want to talk about SEO budgets.</p>
<p>Internet advertising and marketing budgets have also soared but the stakes are still high. <a href="http://www.kenmoredesign.com/" target="_blank">Real professional internet marketing companies</a> will allow you to set your own budget. In most cases the LOWEST monthly budget is $800 &#8211; $1000 (Still !MUCH! lower then a radio or TV advertisement). Good internet marketing company will pick the right marketing methods and approaches for you. Make sure to talk to your SEO company before writing a check. Make sure your internet marketing company provides you with traffic analytics so you could track your ROI (return on investment). Make sure to be patient, if you have never done internet marketing it may take up to three months before you make to the desirable firs page of search results.</p>
<p>Have a good search!</p>

This time about CSS. I believe may people will find these tips useful, not only the beginners but also some experiences programmers since there is no limit to perfection <img src='http://blog.kenmoredesign.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">1. Use global resets</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">Global reset is used for more or less similar website rendering in the different browsers. Different browsers have different default values for various elements. Global resets help you fight with these issues.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">2. Differentiate id and class in elements</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">Id attribute specifies that this element is all alone &#8211; unique, for example there is only one header on a website. Class however describes a few elements with similar style and preferences.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">3. Use short preferences</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">Using short preferences values is very convenient. Doing so will also reduce you CSS file size.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">4. Organize your CSS files</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">A good alternative to dividing files is better commenting inside the actual files. It makes your code easier to read and edit.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">5. Use CSS frameworks and toolboxes</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">Doing so will help you save time. You can use the existing framewfork or edit it to make it wok better with your project.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">6. Avoid redundancy</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">You all know that tags td (tbody/thead/tr) is only allowed within the table tag. The same goes for li and ui. So instead of:</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">table td { &#8230; }   ul li { &#8230; }</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">you can write:</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">td { &#8230; }   li { &#8230; }</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">This is a very easy case, but I think you got the idea.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">7. Don&#8217;t overuse !important</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">This flag raises the priority of the described preference, so if you have a contradiction down below the preference with !important will be prioritized. Some beginners like to abuse !important but remember you can always replace it with stricter inheritance.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">8. Differentiate media types</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">Media types with connected CSS files allow you to correct website rendering on different platforms (monitor, cellphone, printer). Using media types is cross-referenced with using different files, using these will make your website more accessible.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">9. Specify multiple fonts</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">Every time you specify fonts make sure to specify more then one since different platforms use different fonts.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">BTW most of the professional CSS editors have built in font collections. Enough of notepad programming already <img src='http://blog.kenmoredesign.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">10. Use tools to check CSS in the browser. it will make your work easier and faster.</div>

<p>Hello Everyone,</p>
<div id="attachment_219" class="wp-caption alignleft" style="width: 252px"><img class="size-full wp-image-219" title="css" src="http://blog.kenmoredesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/css.jpg" alt="css" width="242" height="130" /><p class="wp-caption-text">css</p></div>
<p>After a long delay I finally found some time to write a new post. This time about CSS. I believe may people will find these tips useful, not only the beginners but also some experiences programmers since there is no limit to perfection <img src='http://blog.kenmoredesign.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><strong>1. Use global resets </strong></p>
<p>Global reset is used for more or less similar website rendering in the different browsers. Different browsers have different default values for various elements. Global resets help you fight with these issues.</p>
<p><strong>2. Differentiate id and class in elements </strong></p>
<p>Id attribute specifies that this element is all alone &#8211; unique, for example there is only one header on a website. Class however describes a few elements with similar style and preferences.<br />
<span id="more-218"></span> <strong>3. Use short preferences</strong></p>

<p>table td { &#8230; }   ul li { &#8230; }</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-200" title="Boston" src="http://blog.kenmoredesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/mapdata.gif" alt="Boston" width="304" height="156" />If you are in the real estate business you know how important it is to have your listings online and visible to public. Over 75% of the real-estate is rented had the original lead through some online resource.</p>
<p>Websites like Craigslist, Backpage, Gooogle Base, etc made it really easy and FREE to have your listings exposed to hundreds of potential clients every day.</p>
<p>Now. Let&#8217;s assume that your website is not connected to the listing database. Most of your daily routine is cutting and pasting , creating content, and publishing ads online.</p>
<p>On the other hand you may have gone further: You may have a dynamic website that publishes all the listings from your database into your site. Some solutions even allow to publish your ad right from your website backend. These solutions are perfect for big sized businesses. However we would suggest calling a few companies before going to a big and famous. Sometimes product offered by smaller companies is much better then well known solution.</p>
<p><span id="more-196"></span></p>
<p>Since I live in Boston I happened to know many real estate companies and real estate web solutions. Companies go after solutions like Dreaming Code or Boston logic because the names are well know. I know at least three other smaller companies that do a much better job for a competitive price.</p>
<p>My article is not as much about the real estate solutions as much about presenting your listings online. It&#8217;s not enough to have a website. Your listings should be blasted daily on all of the classifieds, public databases, sites like boston.com, Bigcityapartments.com, Hotpads.com, Bostonapartments.com and many others.</p>
<p>Real Estate Marketing is a service that offers you to outsource all this repetitive job to another company (using the third party is much more affordable then using the same web design companies) that would push your listing on the websites/classifieds of your choice. This will drive targeted traffic to your website from the classifieds, from search engine providing you with hot leads and booing you website rank.</p>
<p>Chao!</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-190" title="rss" src="http://blog.kenmoredesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/rss-icon-f.gif" alt="rss" width="118" height="119" />How many sites do you visit every day? Maybe once a week? News, blogs, LiveJournal, pictures? I personally used to have a link in the browser&#8217;s bookmarks: EVERY DAY with the bookmarks of the sites I should visit daily.</p>
<p>So once the RSS came around I got rid of that folder. RSS gives you the ability to have access to all of the updates as it comes and then you can actually read it later when you are not connected to Internet.</p>
<p>RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. Adding another site to your RSS reader you get constant updates from those sites.</p>
<h3>Why is this useful?</h3>
<p>1. It is faster &#8211; you will only see the updates without old news, navigation challenges, annoying ads, etc.<br />
2. You will see ALL updates from all of the sites you follow.<br />
3. All news are organized in the same fashion so all the navigation challenges are gone.<br />
4. Saves your time traffic.<br />
5. In order to subscribe you don&#8217;t need to give any of your personal information away.</p>
<p><span id="more-189"></span></p>
<h3>RSS reading through other sites</h3>
<p>There are many website that offer RSS reading online. They will collect feeds on one page &#8211; so instead of collecting all the information on your local machine you will have other sites collect your information for you and access it when you like.</p>
<h3>RSS reading via email</h3>
<p>In my opinion it defeats the purpose of RSS and your identity security however there are a few services such as <a href="http://www.feedmyinbox.com/" target="_blank">feed my inbox</a> that will send all the updates to you via email.</p>
<h3>Receiving RSS using standalone program</h3>
<p><a href="http://www.newsgator.com/Individuals/FeedDemon/Default.aspx" target="_blank">FeedDeamon</a> is one of the best programs in my opinion for the fob, however there are tons of programmes these days for all tastes. Most mail agents are doing pretty good job.</p>
<h3>If your site doesn&#8217;t have the RSS feed</h3>
<p>There are still many companies with intensive and constant updates that do not allow RSS subscriptions. This is wrong &#8211; and you are loosing readers. Have <a href="http://kenmoredesign.com/">your web design company</a> implement RSS feed or use services like <a href="http://www.feed43.com/" target="_blank">FEED43 </a>that allows to create feeds from the content updates of your choice.</p>
<p>I want to conclude that RSS has become a big part of the web. If you still don&#8217;t subscribe or do not provide I highly recommend to start.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://kenmoredesign.com"><img class="size-full wp-image-172 alignright" style="border: 0pt none; margin: 8px;" title="Boston web design geek" src="http://blog.kenmoredesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/17at422_01.jpg" alt="Boston web design geek" width="229" height="152" /></a>Till this day we find new websites sliced by the rules of the end of the previous century. Table slicing, picture-backgrounds placed using IMG tag, using FONT tag, fixed font size and so on.</p>
<p>Hey web design gurus, you really need to drop this kind of archaisms&#8230;.</p>
<p>The material I placed here is written in a really easy format so even a non-professional will understand this.</p>
<h3>DIV style document structure</h3>
<p>Once upon a time it was really easy to use tables for slicing HTML documents &#8211; block style just did not allow using some mocks. But once the CSS came to life table slicing became a symbol of retrogress.</p>
<p>Major disadvantages of table slicing:</p>
<p><span id="more-169"></span></p>
<p>1. Tons of repetitive code<br />
2. <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">Bad</span> terrible code readability<br />
3. Serious problems displaying the page on the mobile devices<br />
4. Highly restricted page-load order</p>
<p>Tables are included in HTML only for displaying table data, the document structure has to be displayed using DIV blocks. No exceptions.</p>
<p>Simple example of table slicing :</p>
<pre>&lt;table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"&gt;&lt;tr&gt;&lt;td class="header" colspan="2"&gt;HEADER!&lt;/td&gt;&lt;/tr&gt;&lt;tr&gt;&lt;td class="content"&gt;CONTENT!&lt;/td&gt;&lt;td class="sidebar"&gt;SIDEBAR!&lt;/td&gt;&lt;/tr&gt;&lt;tr&gt;&lt;td class="footer" colspan="2"&gt;FOOTER!&lt;/td&gt;&lt;/tr&gt;</pre>
<p>The same example sliced with DIV blocks:</p>
<pre>&lt;div id="header"&gt;HEADER!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div id="wrapper"&gt;&lt;div id="content"&gt;CONTENT!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div id="sidebar"&gt;SIDEBAR!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;div id="footer"&gt;FOOTER!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/table&gt;</pre>
<p>It is easy to see the difference in the amount of code and It&#8217;s readability.</p>
<p>In the last example it doesn&#8217;t matter where the sidebar is located (right or left): one way or the other the content part will load first.</p>
<h3>Semantics of the pages</h3>
<p>This is important for any HTML document in general and especially for the content part. Using the correct tags, titles, paragraphs, (check)lists is equally importaing for search engine indexation and in case if the page is looked at from a mobile device of non CSS browser.<br />
Most of the professional web design firms will make sure your content is accurate and linked correctly as well. For example if you crate special landing pages for different destinations make sure they respond to the correct values:</p>
<p><a title="Professional web design in Boston" href="http://www.kenmoredesign.com/" target="_blank">Boston Web Design</a> or  <a title="International League of Conservation Photographers" href="http://ilcp.com/" target="_blank">Washington Conversational Photographers </a></p>
<h3>Minimalistic coding</h3>
<p>Simpler code is a sign of professionalism. (Please be aware: I&#8217;m talking about code functionality and code flexibility). I can write a whole article on this topic but here I will only demonstrate a simple example :</p>
<pre>&lt;div id="category"&gt;&lt;h1 <strong>class=”category-header”</strong>&gt;Topics&lt;/h1&gt;&lt;p <strong>class=”left”</strong>&gt;Topic cloud&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul <strong>class=”category-list”</strong>&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;a <strong>class=”category-link” </strong> href=”#”&gt;construction&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;a <strong>class=”category-link” </strong>href=”#”&gt;plumbing&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;a <strong>class=”category-link” </strong>href=”#”&gt;oil pumping&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</pre>
<p>Things in bold are redundant. &lt;h1&gt;, &lt;p&gt;, &lt;ul&gt; and &lt;a&gt; in this block are used for look and feel customization using CSS. But this is a bad code, it was written by someone who is not very familiar with CSS.</p>
<p>You can specify the style like this:</p>
<pre>.category-link {properties}

And here is the better HTML version:
<pre class="brush: html">&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;div id=&quot;category&quot;&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;h1&lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&gt;Topics&lt;/h1&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;p&lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&gt;Topic cloud&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;a&lt;strong&gt; &lt;/strong&gt; href=”#”&gt;construction&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;a href=”#”&gt;plumbing&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;a &lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;href=”#”&gt;oil pumping&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;</pre>
<p>The style will look like this:</pre>
<pre>#category li a {properties}&lt;/div&gt;</pre>
<p>The change does not seem very important but it will boost you page load speed and optimize the code for future changes.</p>
<h3>Clear names of structural blocks</h3>
<p>Some people think of this as a good practice but I believe that giving proper and clead names to structure blocks is essential in modern coding. Most of the sites have these four parts :</p>
<p>1. Header<br />
2. Content<br />
3. Sidebar<br />
4. Footer</p>
<p>These Parts respond to four parts of the website page. Since this kind of layout was so common HTML v5 officially announced implementation of the following tags: &lt;header&gt;, &lt;footer&gt; and many others. Now since we have some tibe befor HTML v5 will be required the following structure is considered to be professional:</p>
<pre>&lt;div id="<strong>header</strong>“&gt;Head&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div id=”<strong>wrapper</strong>“&gt;&lt;div id=”content”&gt;Text&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div id=”sidebar”&gt;Side_content&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div id=”<strong>footer</strong>“&gt;foot_note&lt;/div&gt;</pre>
<h3>Comments after closing block tags</h3>
<p>Sometimes you can see the following elements of the page code:</p>
<pre>&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</pre>
<p>Even if there are spaces in between it&#8217;s really hard to tell which div is closing and where. Even the smallest changes (especially editing the CMS settings or design slicing) require this kind of knowledge.</p>
<p>The simple solution: place a text comment near each div notifying of closing of a certain block:</p>
<pre>&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt; &lt;!-- /sidebar --&gt;&lt;/div&gt; &lt;!-- /wrapper --&gt;</pre>
<h3>Correct use of float-blocks</h3>
<p>Block-style of slicing has many advantages, but there are a few disadvantages as well. The main disadvantage is about the floating of the elements around them. Such blocks usually have a preference (float: left or float: right). If blocks like that are different in the height then the following element in the HTML starts to float around one of the blocks. For the correct anti-floating this logic is the most common:</p>
<pre>&lt;div id="content"&gt; &lt;!-- parent block --&gt;[...]&lt;div style=”float:left”&gt;some content&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style=”float:left”&gt;another content&lt;/div&gt;<strong>&lt;div style=”clear:both”&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</strong> &lt;!– «reset block –&gt;<strong></strong>[...]&lt;/div&gt; &lt;!– /content –&gt;</pre>
<p>In the other words we place another &#8216;resetting&#8217; block-style element that does not allow moving the following blocks (marked with bold).</p>
<p>This approach has only one chance for existence:in case if it is not possible to set width of the parent block.</p>
<p>In case if it is possible to set the width of the parent&#8217;s block then it is more correct to skip the resetting block but for the parent block set the following CSS-parameter:</p>
<pre>#content {width:[width]; overflow:hidden}</pre>
<p>There are other techniques such as using pseudo-class :after or height:0 but they are much less convenient and much uglier in my opinion.</p>
<h3>Use of background pictures</h3>
<p>You need to use background bpictures instead of regular pictures for the correct display of images in the mobile devices. Example: Pictures that exist in the header are the background of the header blocks .</p>
<p><strong>No background picture &#8211; show background color</strong></p>
<p>Sometimes the website assumes the background color. Let&#8217;s assume there is a blue block on the page and lets assume that there are links that are going over the block. If the links are in the white color. If the image is not going to lad then the links will not be visible.</p>
<p>Simplifying intereactive element</p>
<p>Using the mouseover effect became very common use of making the website more interactive. Here is a hint. You can use one image instead of four by implementing thre following logic. Please see the image below:</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-184" title="pic" src="http://blog.kenmoredesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/spayr.jpg" alt="pic" width="274" height="246" /></p>
<p>So on &#8216;mouseover&#8217; you can move the picture 50% down to animate the folder. Using this techique allows you to unload sthe server and make the page load faster.</p>
<h3>Use of CSS hacks</h3>
<p>This is a controvercial subject. Sometimes you cant do it without hacks&#8230; Especialluy in Internet Explorer 6 (god_send) but I&#8217;m convinced that you can just keep connecting separate CSS files.</p>
<p>Use this as a reference:</p>
<pre>&lt;!--[if lte IE 6]&gt;&lt;link rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” href=”[адрес]/style_for_ie6.css”/&gt;&lt;![endif]–&gt;&lt;!–[if lte IE 7]&gt;&lt;link rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” href=”[адрес]/style_for_ie7.css”/&gt;&lt;![endif]–&gt;</pre>
<p>I&#8217;m sure this list is far from being complete. In my opinion these are the most important elements.</p>
